TIFF 2011
THE HUNTER has received a great response from US audiences after its World Premiere at the 36th
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Snapped up by Magnolia Pictures, the film will release in US
cinemas next year.
Efilm Australia provided full rushes and post production services for THE HUNTER and the film was
graded by our Colourist, Olivier Fontenay. Postmodern (now Method Studios) provided extensive VFX
work and the film’s sound was mixed at StageOne.
THE HUNTER is a powerful psychological drama that tells the story of Martin (Willem Dafoe), a
mercenary sent from Europe by a mysterious biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt
for the last Tasmanian Tiger.
Directed by Sydney based director Daniel Nettheim and produced by Vincent Sheehan. It stars two-
time Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe (SPIDER-MAN, PLATOON), AFI winner and Golden Globe
nominated Frances O’Connor (BLESSED, MANSFIELD PARK) and Sam Neill (JURASSIC PARK, THE PIANO).
Based on the debut novel by Julia Leigh, who also directed SLEEPING BEAUTY, which Efilm Australia
worked on last year.
THE HUNTER is scheduled for local release on October 6.
